is a hole in the exhaust system.

Mayfield Intimidates the Intimidator

also passed Earnhardt to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively, with Earnhardt
finishing in 4th and Mark Martin in 5th. Bobby Labonte, who finished
13th, now leads 2nd place Dale Earnhardt by 57 points and defending series
champion Dale Jarrett by 115. Ward Burton drops to 4th in the

Earnhardt answers ARCA Pocono call
Kerry Earnhardt borrowed the keys to his Dad’s Monte Carlo and delivered the perfect Father’s Day gift - a victory Saturday in the Pocono ARCA 200. And like his famous father and brother before him, Earnhardt became the third member of the high-profile family to go to victory lane this year in major-league superspeedway racing.
Earnhardt, in only his fourth ARCA start and first-ever at Pocono, led 55 of 80 laps and kept Mike
Swaim, Jr at bay late in the event to complete the family hat-trick. “Dad was on the radio helping me out,” said the winner in victory lane. “Dad preached to me last week about concentrating and listening to him and not to worry about the rear view mirror. I just watched my marks and kept thanking him, and here we are in victory lane.”
Not NASCAR, but this is good news.

#55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Mercedes-Benz Reynard Tenneco Grand Prix of Detroit – Saturday Final Qualifying Notes/Quotes Round 7 of 20 on the 2000 CART FedEx Championship Series Sunday, June 18, 2000 – At The Raceway on Belle Isle
Tony Kanaan, driver of the #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Mercedes-Benz Reynard, underwent successful surgery Saturday evening to repair two broken bones in his left forearm sustained in a final qualifying session crash earlier in the day. Dr. David Karges of Detroit Receiving Hospital performed the 2-hour, 15-minute procedure that involved the insertion of two metal plates and 14 screws to repair the forearm injury. Kanaan also suffered four cracked ribs and a mild concussion in Saturday’s single-car accident. He will remain at Detroit Receiving Hospital through this evening and is expected to be released Monday. Doctors said they expect a recovery period of four to six weeks.
The Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing team withdrew its entry from today’s event but will be back on track in time for next weekend’s
Freightliner/G.I. Joe’s 200 at Portland, Ore. An announcement regarding a replacement driver is
forthcoming.

Talladega Testing: Talladega Superspeedway is hosting an open test session on Tuesday, June 20, 2000. Scheduled to test are the #16 and #17 Cup cars owned by Jack Roush(Talladega PR) This may change now with the Pocono 500 race being delayed until Monday, June 19th(6-18-2000)
Benning at the Brickyard: #84-Norm Benning driver/owner of the #84 Benning
Motorsports/SoBe Healthy Beverages Chevy is planning to run the Brickyard 400. Benning he has bought a car from Mattei Motorsports to race at Indy and plans a test session at Indy in early July. Benning attempted to make the Daytona 500 but failed to make the race(Motorsports Fan Report)(6-18-2000)
Lasoski at all Kansas events? Danny Lasoski, normally a sprint-car racer, wants to drive in every race that will be run at the new Kansas Speedway next year. He thinks he's been able to wrangle a deal for a NASCAR Craftsman Trucks ride if the speedway gets one of those races and the same for a BGN and ARCA ride. Lasoski even thinks he has a shot at an IRL ride. But the Winston Cup race may be the holdup. It appears right now that he's targeting good friend Kenny Schrader for the Cup ride. Lasowski and Schrader are both Missori natives(KC Star)(6-18-2000)
Walking Wounded: #88-Dale Jarrett aggravated a muscle in his lower back climbing out of the Ford #88 on Friday but is fine for the race. #14-Rick Mast broke a small bone in his left foot after mixing it up with Steve Park two weeks ago at the Dover race(Atlanta Journal Constitution)(6-18-2000)
Rocky and Bullwinkle? hearing Robby Gordon
will run a Rocky and Bullwinkle scheme sometime this summer, probably to
promote the new movie coming out soon(6-17-2000)
2nd Round Qualifying is over for the Pocono 500. #66- Darrell Waltrip was
the fastest of the four cars who made an attempt with a speed of
167.103mph, but it was not fast enough to make the race and with no
provisionals, DW goes home with his 4th DNQ. #97-Chad Little uses his 8th
provisional in 15 races so far, 4th race in a row, for info on who has
used provisionals at what race in 2000, see the Provisionals Used page.
Others missing the race are #52-Bill Baird, who looks like didn't make a
2nd round attempt, and #72-Dwayne Leik, who also didn't make a 2nd round
attempt. Of the four cars that made the attempts, two were faster(#'s 66
and 71) and two were slower(#'s 9 and 60). So the field is set, see the
starting grid at NASCAR Online or Racin.net

2001 TV Contract: Sources involved with the 2001 TV deal have told
Speedway Scene that there will be an hour-long pre-race show and a
half-hour post-race show. These new shows are being dictated by the new TV
contract(Speedway Scene). No word on qualifying but have heard that each
will have to carry 1st round qualifying in some form. More past news on
the new TV contract on the TV/Radio/Media
page

Track vendors find gypsy life appealing
The gypsy life of a NASCAR vendor wouldn't appeal to most people.
They travel from track to track, spend hours setting up tables and tents. Unloading merchandise. Haggling with customers. Loading up again. Then it's off to the next state, the next track.

Fun Fact By: Stooge
Dateline: Mar. 31, 1963. Bristol, TN, Southeastern 500. Big news, Firball Roberts is returning to the Ford camp, driving a Holman-Moody '63 Ford. One little problem though, his feud with Fred Lorenzen has been building since Martinsville, 6 months earlier. The problem? They were now teammates

I messed around and forgot to set the timer for the VCR and didn't tape the ARCA race from Pocono last Saturday. My mom is a huge Earnhardt fan in general, and about beat me to death because I didn't tape it. I need a copy fast!! Will pay for it.

Analysts, SMI weigh damage from accident
Erik Spanberg Senior Staff Writer
Four weeks after a pedestrian walkway collapsed at Lowe's Motor Speedway, industry analysts are still assessing the financial and public relations damage to the track and its parent company.
An 80-foot section of a pedestrian walkway bridge collapsed at the speedway just after the annual all-star NASCAR race May 20. Fans fell 17 feet to U.S. Highway 29, injuring 107. There were no deaths. Investigators say the collapse was caused by high levels of calcium chloride in grout, which caused steel cables in the bridge to corrode and collapse.
Since then, five injured spectators have filed lawsuits. Among the many issues Speedway Motorsports Inc. will grapple with: Who assumes liability -- the track or walkway builder Spartanburg-based Tindall Corp.?
